Igor Gerźina — One Click World

Jan. 4, 2014

It certainly doesn’t take Croatian saxman Igor Gerźina very long to conceive of grooves that are sure to capture the essence of contemporary jazz and the imagination of its fans.  Igor Gerzina CDOn the heels of his hot July 2012 release, Metropolis, he’s back swinging for the bleachers with One Click World. Full of energy, body, and cool melodies and hooks, this muscular project is sure to make inroads.

This high octane project comes packed with originals like the mid-tempo sassy “Cocktail Time,” the feel-good up-tempo “Better Man” with soulful vocals from one Mirza Tetarić (aka Mirza Soul Shadow), the crazily funky “Fandabbydozy,” the dead-on smooth-striding “In the Spot,” and the jammin’ monster title track for starters, not to mention a great cover of pop/rock band OneRepublic’s “Counting Stars.”

Gerźina leaves absolutely no doubt that he is one artist who’ll be around making his mark for some time. Feeling and experiencing that smooth groove all the way in Croatia speaks volumes about the wonderful influence this genre really wields, despite what some naysayers might say. One listen to this album will certainly serve as proof enough. From track one to the finale, Gerźina grabs the genre by the hand and dances like there’s no tomorrow. You’ll surely feel the need to do the same. I did.

When you’ve proven with your first two releases that you’re for real and not producing smoke and mirrors with overused and often unnecessary computer toys in the studio, I think you can consider yourself as having arrived. Gerźina’s brand is the brand we jazzers undoubtedly all seek. The originality, the deep-down reach, the emotion, and, of course, the skill here are so refreshing. From Croatia with love and grooves, here again is the mastery of Igor Gerźina. Let him take you with him on this crazy ride of sheer musical satisfaction. – Ronald Jackson
